If you have a question, please contact us.

I have lots of pictures that are not digital but I don’t have a scanner either, so I’m finding it hard to upload pictures to my tribute site. Can you help?

We have a free service enabling you to have up to six photographs scanned per tribute site. Please contact us to find out more.

Can everyone who visits Missyou see the tribute website I have set up, or can it be restricted so that just people I know can view it?

You have the choice of making the Missyou Tribute site you are setting up either private or public. You will be offered this choice when you set up the tribute webpages.

Public (but still password protected)
Anyone visiting the Missyou site can view the Tribute site and read the thoughts and memories that have been left there. They can also make a donation in memory of your loved one to charity. However, they can only leave messages, thoughts and photographs themselves if they have a Family and Friends Password (via you). Some people find it gives comfort to read the words of others, and feel that they are not alone in their grief. At the same time, they know that the Tribute page itself can only be added to by someone who you have issued a Family and Friends password to.

Private
The Tribute site can only be viewed by people who have a Family & Friends password (via you). They can also contribute thoughts, stories, pictures and light candles. However, the page is not accessible in any way for viewing by visitors to www.missyou.org.uk who may not be known to you. Some people feel that they only want close family and friends to view the site at all, rather than other people who they may not know.

Please note that whether you choose Public or Private, visitors to the site will always need to have a Family & Friends password or your approval before posting messages, memories or photographs.

I would like my family to contribute their memories of Dad to his tribute webpage – how do I do this?

It’s very easy. All you need to do is email them the ‘Friends and Family’ password. We’ve provided some e-cards for you to use if you’d like. You can even place a picture of your loved one within the card – or feel free to choose one of the pictures we have provided.

How much does it cost and where does the money go?

Missyou is the only site of its kind run by registered charities who work in the area of care for the bereaved. We do not charge a fee to set up a tribute web page or to use Missyou, but instead we invite you to make a donation to one of the registered charities supported by this site.

These charities are all locally-based hospice organisations, caring for the terminally ill during the last months and weeks of life, and also extending that support to their families. Local hospices rely on the support of individuals like you to deliver these vital care services, as the government only provides on average a third of their funding costs.

By creating a Missyou tribute site and giving a donation of your choice, not only can you remember a loved one – but in doing so, in their name you will help people in need across the UK. Please click here to see the registered charities that work with Missyou

We ask for a suggested donation of £20 per year to use Missyou. Some people prefer to give other levels of gift – the choice is entirely up to you. Some people have also chosen to make further donations in memory of their loved ones via the Tribute page – perhaps on a special day or meaningful anniversary.

If you are a UK tax-payer, any donation you give can be increased by 28% at no cost to you via the Gift Aid programme so that every £1 you give actually results in a gift of £1.28.

Missyou does have to subtract a very limited amount on each gift in credit card and other associated transaction costs. It is important to us that we are clear and open about these so please click here if you would like more detail about this.

What does it mean if I am the Administrator?

  • The Administrator is the person who originally set up the tribute website. They can perform any task on the pages – for example, changing text, adding to photographs etc. They can circulate a password to trusted family or friends, to enable these people to add their own memories directly to the site. Administrators can approve – or reject - messages from guest visitors (who do not have the Family & Friends password), to be published on the tribute webpage.
  • Family & Friends are people trusted by the Administrator. They can add a Message, add a Memory, Light a Candle or Upload a Picture by logging in with a Family & Friends password.
  • Guest visitors do not need to log in. They can Light a Candle, and they can leave a Message (which must be approved by the Tribute page’s Administrator before it will appear on the Tribute page).
